The Contract for the First Commercial AIS Satellite in China “HEAD-1” Signing

November 1, 2016 is the first day of the 11th China International Aviation and Aerospace Expo. China HEAD Aerospace Technology Co. and the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST) successfully signed the "HEAD-1" AIS satellite development contract and Strategic Cooperation Agreement in Zhuhai. As the first domestic AIS commercial satellite, "HEAD-1" is planned to be launched in the first half of 2017 by LM-4C Launcher. The cooperation between HEAD Aerospace and SAST is the symbol of a substantial and breakthrough key step for the "military-civilian integration" mode of cooperation exploration.

HEAD-1 satellite applies highly integrated “Smart” satellite platform, equipped with the world advanced AIS (Automatic Identification System) payload system, including the sensitive AIS receiver and beam-complementary, ground-fully-covered AIS receiving antenna, which has good detection rate for the ship's high-density and medium density areas. In average, it can decode 2 million messages from not less than 60,000 ships per day.
